London Marathon 2011
My first, my last, my only marathon done ! It was an adventure - finished in 4 hours 52mins. Lost a shoe, tooth & waist bag at 15 miles as tripped up and ended up in the gutter with 100’s water bottles. The first half I was cruising & felt good - the last 12 were a killer with a painful hip & thigh. Ran between water stations but walked through them just in case I was...

Back in Business
New tri suit arrived - I truly shredded the last one on the road last Sunday.  Bike completely fixed - all gears & brakes working, bottle rack reattached.  Both bike & body have a few scraps, scars and dints but all starting to look good ( well better !).  Will test everything out this weekend then - Off to London next weekend !!!! yipeeee

Meet Mr Smooth !
I was just reading through Triathlete Magazine and saw this add for an animated 3D swimmer. It describes stroke technique at any speed or angle. It’s a free download.  http://www.swimsmooth.com/

Runner or jogger ?- I'm a runner, what are you
As the total number of marathon finishers increases, and the average marathon finishing times get slower and slower, the debate about how slower marathoners are ruining what it means to be a “marathoner” has raged on. To some extent, I understand the viewpoint of those who state that those in the five-hour range or slower are “dirtying” what it means to be a true marathoner. For example, if you...

Le Tour in numbers →
123,900 - Calories burned by a rider in the course of the Tour 324,000 (at 60 rpm); 486,000 (at 90 rpm) - Number of pedal strokes taken per rider over the Tour 3 - Average number of chains worn out by a single rider (Armstrong goes through one chain per week) 8,400 - Food bags…

Fresh & wild - 1 mile lake swim no wetsuit
Water was 24c, buoys had been moved away from the killer strangling weeds, so clear waters for uninterrupted swimming - sweet as !  I am sure I was being stalked by a big black bream fish all the way around as every time I looked down and after every buoy turn he was there !  Bacon butty and coffee afterward - the food of tri champions ( well in my mind ) ended a perfect evening swim.

Race report - Womens Only Tri, challenge distance....
With a 10:30am wave start it wasn’t too early a start for me but still managed to head for the Westbound motorway junction instead of East - I’m never good in the mornings.  Arrived at venue, parked up and headed for registration after 1/2 mile walk and still only half way there went back to the car for my bike & full kit to take with me otherwise I’d walk 3 miles before the...

Incident free lake swim
A full 30mins non-stop swim. No strangulation by weed, no sighting of attacking swans & no sprained ankle on run ! I love these evening outdoor swims.

Only six weeks to go !
Then I will try & complete the London Olympic distance triathalon in a reasonable time. Fingers crossed no mistakes on route or in T1 or T2. Better cut down on the Pimms & wine !

Hottest Weekend of year for training
Country bike ride 30k It was a hot one at 30c but not complaining, don’t get too many good hot summer days here in the UK. Managed to keep above 30k/hr pace, target race pace for London. Walter George 10k route  Steady run in heat, tress along old railway line provided some shade. Strapped ankle up (twisted it on lake run) and it held up OK.  Just iPod & me as quiet route - others...

Challenging lake swim
Tonights swim was fraught with dangers - attacking swans, strangulation by weed and blindness by strong low sun. Also bitten by some critter on back of neck. Still 40+ swimmers battled on some more nervous than others. Warm waters, hot tea & bacon butty made the evening all right. :-) Happy summer days.

Bowood Dog Show
Seven days set-up, one day show, six hours breakdown and Bowood grounds back to normal with no trace of dog show. Good entrance numbers & our fundog scurry had over 130 entries ( 40 more than last year). Megan got fastest scurry time, Tilly got worst stay & recall time, both unofficial as volenteers dogs. Booked in for post painting & scurry next year.

Registered for tomorrows Tri tonight
Four big orange buoys to follow - easy. Ran out of direction signs on bike route so not sure where I’ll be going ? Have to run through a couple of hedges & over pebbles - that’ll be interesting !

Girls don’t ask your husband to put suntan lotion on your back - they’re rubbish, miss bits & only interested in your front. A few red patches from walking Bath show today.

Ciao - off to enjoy Italy
Using up 1,000’s BA airmiles before they expire, we’re off to lake Como in style. Hope cabin crews & volcanic ash don’t scupper our travel plans ?
